Welcome to #HaciendaOnAHill — with its sprawling backyard, Mediterranean charm, and magical Riviera views, this property captured our hearts from the moment we first saw it. We bought #HaciendaOnAHill at the start of the new year, and 4 months later, we’re so excited to share the transformation with you.
They say the kitchen is the heart of the home, and this home has a heart of gold. By reimagining the floor plan and switching the kitchen and dining room locations, we increased the footprint of the new kitchen and created a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. Custom cabinetry and Italian marble countertops brought the space to life, while deVOL polished nickel fixtures and bronze hardware pulled it all together. We also stuck to our tried-and-true favorite paint colors: Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee to soften the walls and ceiling, and Farrow & Ball Schoolhouse White on the cabinetry.
Throughout the home, we installed European wide oak plank floors and brightened each space with a fresh coat of warm white paint. We already loved the existing structure and our goal was to restore the home’s Mediterranean farmhouse charm while giving it the refresh it deserved.
The entire second story houses the oversized primary suite of our dreams. We knew this space had so much potential and wanted to create a special retreat for the future owners. We installed new bi-fold doors to emphasize the ocean views, refreshed the existing fireplace, updated the lighting, and completely transformed the primary bathroom.
Inspired by the previous flagstone on the bathroom floor, we chose Eco Outdoor’s “Scala” Travertine flagstone for the floors. The double shower features Zia Tile’s “Casablanca” Zellige Tile with Waterworks brass fixtures. And of course, the star of the show is this stunning Brazilian avalanche marble that is truly one-of-a-kind.
For the downstairs bathroom, we kept it simple and sophisticated with a monochromatic palette, arched shower, and plaster walls throughout. We looked to Eco Outdoor’s “Scala” Travertine stone again, this time incorporating the 2x8 stone batons in a herringbone pattern. Our custom Oliver Vanity fit perfectly in the space and pairs well with deVOL’s classic brass knobs.
Stepping outside, the landscape underwent a metamorphosis of its own. What was once a neglected garden is now a mega backyard with a lush lawn, gravel pathways, new Cherokee stone steps, and a variety of drought-tolerant plants. It is truly a retreat with stunning ocean and city views, and we hope you love it as much as we do!
