One of my favorite elements of the homes we design are our custom vanities: the London, Oliver and Parker. The dream for designing custom furniture began when Isabella and I moved our family to Austin, Texas in 2020 (for a brief stint). When furnishing our new home, I decided to design and build nightstands and a bed frame for our primary bedroom. It’s always been a goal of mine to build furniture and prove to myself that I’m capable of making something beautiful.
After moving back to Santa Barbara in 2021 and starting our first project, Casa Vista, we were on the hunt for beautiful, custom vanities and found them difficult to find without purchasing from mainstream furniture websites. We also realized that many products available are made from particle board and cheaper woods. We really wanted a solid, custom piece that would last a lifetime.
Isabella and I began going back and forth conceptualizing and drawing these pieces until we came up with a design that worked best for the space. Once we got the prototype drawn out, it took me about one week to build all three vanity designs. Our largest, double-sink vanity, the London, took me about two days and our smaller, single-sink vanities, the Parker and Oliver, also took me about two days to complete.
When designing the vanities, it was a no-brainer for us to go with white oak for all three pieces. It’s our favorite type of wood and is durable and naturally beautiful. The color is also in line with our brand and it just felt like the right wood to use for our first line of custom vanities. We are looking forward to experimenting with other wood types and colors in the future.
We then decided to name the vanities after our boys: our seven year old, London Parker, and our three year old, Oliver Milo. Spoiler alert, we will soon be releasing a Milo Nightstand. Be on the lookout!
The design and build process for our three custom vanities was one of our most rewarding projects to date. They are now available for purchase on our website and will be included in all future Cove House design projects. We are looking forward to some of our new releases that are coming soon; including our Milo Nightstand, a bedframe, and limited edition vanity designs.
